Progress Update

Looks like we've got some busy weeks ahead of us!

Electrical rough in was completed this week and our bricks are being cleaned today.

Insulation will be going in Monday with gyprock hopefully starting on Tuesday. Our SS Mark advised we'll probably be locked out in a 2-3 weeks :-(

We continue to have no luck with our glass stacker door - this time a panel has fallen out and shattered everywhere, ughhh. Mark is all over it though and we'll have a shiny new door installed shortly.

Clean bricks, ahhhhh

Timber Beams Installed

So. damn. pretty.

I think they'll look ever better once they're stained and the front door/garage door are installed

Eaves Complete

What a difference eaves make!

Work started on our timber beams today too - can't wait to see the finished product

Brickwork Completed

Brickies finished up yesterday and the exterior of our house is almost complete.

The splayed pillars look lovely and I bet they'll be even better once they're painted and the timber beams are installed.

Now the bricks just need a good clean ;)

Our holes in the mortar have been patched as well, phewwwww

Brickwork Continues Pt. 4

Brickwork is almost completely finished, just waiting on the small details around the windows as well as our pillars on the front patio (these will be bagged and painted)

Right now I'm so glad we never considered anything like a polished concrete floor - the slab is disgustingly messy with concrete dropped in several places and chips from fallen bricks.

Something I did not get a photo were some holes I've noticed in our mortar - very tiny holes that are perfectly round, almost as though drilled. After some careful Google investigation, it seems as though we may have mortar wasps or bees :( Has anyone dealt with this before?

Brickwork Continues Pt. 2

Brickies are roaring along now and have almost wrapped their way around the entire house.
Scaffolding was erected today so that brickwork can be completed up to the roofline.

Most of the work done now is in Bowral Simmental Silver - another completely solid brick that proved to be thousands of dollars cheaper than having Bowral Blue everywhere. We loved a Bowral Blue so much that we couldn't let it go entirely and instead chose to have it all across the front facade.

I know that having two different bricks will certainly not be to everyone's taste, but to us it was a good compromise given 1) the significant price difference, 2) the articulation joints would be 'hidden' by downpipes and fences  & 3) the  sides of the house would be rarely seen anyway and it would be a waste to spend $13k upgrading to bricks we would never really see

Articulation joint - will have a downpipe along the seam and will probably have a gate/fence around this area

Brickwork Continues

Front of the house is slowly getting bricked. Only 1 brickie and 1 labourer there today - another brickie to arrive on Wednesday. Apparently our bricks are proving to be quite heavy so it's a slow task.

Two rolls of black lining for the brickwork were swiped from our garage on the weekend so they had to be replaced, grrr.

It's funny how much the brick colour varies during the day. Sometime they throw quite a bit of brown, but then this afternoon they were back to a shiny blue.

Brickwork Begins

Happy New Year everyone!

It has been a slow few weeks, although I suppose this should have been expected due to the Xmas shutdown. We were told that our brickie was likely to continue work over this period and today was the day that we spotted something new.

Brickwork has commenced on either side of the garage and is looking lovely already. There hasn't been a whole heap done, but this still felt like a huge leap forward.

In true form, site work has started up and rain is forecast for next week.

Left side of garage - happy with how the brickie has blended in the variations of colour in this batch of Bowral Blues

Front door frame has been removed by the brickies
